
Did you know that more people are working out at home than at a gym these days? If you think about it, it really makes sense to exercise at home. Why do you need a gym? And why exactly is there an enrollment fee AND a processing fee to join a health club? I don’t know about you, but with more and more options for getting fit and staying healthy at home, I think I’d rather save my money and workout from home!
The most popular home workout option is exercise videos. Yep, that’s right! You can get all those fun classes in the privacy of your own living room. These days, you can even download exercise videos right from the Internet! So, whether you are looking to lose weight, tone up, or just feel healthier and stronger, there are bound to be dozens of great home workout videos that would work for you.
Here are some great home workouts that will help you loose weight and tone up!
Step Aerobics: Great if you like something with fun choreography. The Step platform used in the workout is adjustable from 4 to 8 inches, so you can adjust the height for your personal fitness needs.
Cardio Kickboxing: This one offers more basic moves, but is more aggressive and is perfect for relieving stress at the end of the day!
Cardio Dance/Low Impact Aerobics: This is just plan fun! And yes, you burn tons of calories all while “shaking your booty” to motivating music
Zumba: This is one of the biggest fitness fads right now, and you can do this great fat-burning workout at home! And these are typically easy to follow and have many popular and fun dance moves in them.
Indoor Walking Programs: If you lack coordination, or just like simple workouts that have tricky, complicating choreography and dance steps, try Indoor Walking. There are several versions of this, but Leslie Sansone has some of the best on the market. She has a one, two and three mile walk. These are great home workouts.
Mini Trampoline: You may just already have one of these somewhere in your garage! These were huge around ten years ago and still give amazing workouts. And you can easily do this while watching your favorite TV show. These are low impact workouts that not only help you burn fat and tone up, but they will also give you great abs and better balance.
Running: Many women still think you have to be an athlete to run for a workout! This is not true. Many professional runners advocate the Walk/Jog anyway. Do intervals of walking and jogging for an amazing workout. And start slow, could you do 1-minute jog, 4-minute walk? Yes, you can!!!! Do that four times and you have a great 20-minute workout. And maybe the week later you can push harder. But the secret to any successful workout program is how consistent you are, not how hard you train.
Rollerblading: This one takes a bit of practice, but it’s a blast. I did it about a month ago and I will admit that stopping was tough. In fact, I think I was more successful at stopping by running into a tree than actually using the proper technique for stopping while Rollerblading, but it was a great workout and I did it with a girlfriend and we had a really nice time. Go to your neighborhood park, strap on your Blades and have a ball.
Home workouts are all over the place. Take a look throughout your house and your neighborhood and get creative and start moving more. Heck, you could even use the stairs in your house and run up and down them a few times. The point is to keep moving. Because when you stop making it a “task” and just find stuff that gets you moving, you can actually start looking forward to the break! And yes, it’s a break! Enjoy exercise breaks – they are way more fun than laundry! So, go do a home workout now, even for just five minutes, just move.
