Rubber or elastic bands can also be placed around the brackets to be used to maneuver the lower and upper teeth in various places.  They will work to apply compression against the top teeth to help readjust and perfectly move each individual tooth.  In a severe situation, headgear will be necessary to maneuver the upper molars back into the mouth to fix problems in the bite.  This can also be a treatment used for a mouth that is jam-packed with teeth so that all of the teeth can be situated appropriately.
