Eco Friendly Athletic Training
Many professionals are looking to improve their environmentally friendly practices. The athletic training field is not excluded. Do you have several products in your athletic training kit that you throw away everyday? Is it just ice bags? Perhaps Powerflex and athletic tape? Are you concerned about the aerosol products you use for athletic training? Here are some ideas to move you along on the environmentally friendly path
1)Hot/Cold therapy wraps and Ice Cold therapy wraps can be used in place of plastic ice bags. There are several to chose from in many different sizes. For the convenience of one-time-use ice bags try the Protec Recycled Ice Bags.
2) Ankle injuries tend to be some of the most common among athletes. Traditional taping methods could easily give way to reusable ankle wraps that are specifically made to give a similar feel to tape and prewrap. Try using the Cramer Ank-L-Wrap, a reusable cloth wrap specifically designed for wrapping ankles in place of athletic tape. Instead of using the Ank-L-Wrap you can also try the Protec ankle wrap. Wonder wrap by Mueller is a great solution for wrapping injuries on small areas of the body such as the ankle, wrist, and knees.
3) Utilize braces for the athletes that you seem to wrap over and over. These might include: Cramer Groin Strain Brace – an adjustable wrap used for groin injuries; Protec Knee braces – Protec has a line of various knee braces ranging from IT bands to hinged knee braces that are good for just about any type of knee injury; Protec Achilles Tendon Support Brace – used for strained achilles.
4) Are blisters abounding in new athletic shoes? Most traditional blister dressings are utilized once and discarded. The Engo Team Blister Variety Pack is a blister dressing alternative. The blister patches are placed in the area blisters form on and in sports equipment and are used multiple times.
5) Tuf Skin is a product used by many to secure athletic tape, prewrap, and/or bandages when wrapping so there is a decreased possibility of blisters forming. This is a great product to use with the reusable braces and ankle wraps mentioned above. However, it typically comes in an aerosol container. Alternatively, there is a non-aerosol version in an 8 oz size.
